While the Wii had great first party games, I feel that a lot of quality games were overlooked because they got lost in a sea of shovelware. Calling - This was a really fun and interesting horror title on the Wii. It was similar to the Ju-On game that released for the Wii, however Calling was actually a good game. Cursed Mountain - Another cool horror game that took place in snowy environments and had a really creepy atmosphere.
Disaster: Day of Crisis - This game reminded me a bit of a higher end Disaster Report/Raw Danger. While it was published by Nintendo and developed by the studio behind the Xenoblade gamees, it didn't get a whole lot of love, and it never released in the US. This is the game that got me to mod my Wii. Disney Epic Mickey - While the camera can be finicky, a platformer in the Disney universe created by Warren Spector at the helm spoke to me. While Epic Mickey 2 wasn't a bad game, it wasn't nearly as good as the first game, which had enough flaws to begin with, so it was a bummer that they didn't improve on an already enjoyable but flawed game with its sequel. Domino Rally - If you loved Mr. Domino, I'd recommend checking this one out.
One of the more quirky Japanese games on the platform. Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire - It's definitely not a great game or anything, but it is an enjoyable hack & slash that was created by people who created the Panzer Dragoon games. Escape from Bug Island - Everyone has said this was a bad game, that it's shovelware, etc., but I liked it. It actually reminded me of Dreamcast games like Illbleed and Blue Stinger. Fishing Resort - An open world fishing game with a ton of depth created by Yuji Naka. Really polished throughout. Fragile Dreams - A beautifully immersive game that takes places in a post-apocalyptic setting with a great soundtrack.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game - This is the best Ghostbusters game (alongside the PS3/360/PC versions). The Wii version offers some differences, but is also similar to the other platforms. Some levels are a bit different, some enemies are different, and it's got a cartoony look. The Wii Remote controls work really well. Torrent Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Season. Guilty Party - Awesome game from the creators of Stubbs the Zombie. It reminded me a bit of Clue and an old school LucasArts adventure games. Ivy the Kiwi - Similar to Kirby: Canvas Curse, this is a new platformer by Sonic creator Yuji Naka.
Klonoa - A remake of the first Klonoa completely remade for the Wii. Marble Mania/Marble Saga - Both are really simplistic marble puzzle game that makes great use of the Wii Remote. Little King's Story - Beautiful art direction, a fun and whimsical story, and Pikmin-like gameplay.
Lost In Shadow - This is a Hudson developer 2D platformer with 3D graphics that resembles ICO a bit. It's got some really good sound design and is a lot of fun to play. Madworld - Black & white graphics with a lot of gore.
Most of this game is more of a hack & slash, but there are also stages where you get to ride a motorcycle. This game's got great style. Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars - This is a platformer with massive environments and not a whole lot of hand holding. It threw me back to the good times I had with Mario 64. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - I don't think JoD is as good as the original, and playing as the two kids is a bit unnecessary, but the NiGHTS levels are just as good as ever.
