Hey guys, I've got an older version of Norton Ghost that I'd like to use, but I have to use it from DOS (I'm running XPsp1). Problem is, I don't have a floppy drive. So I attempted to make a bootable CD-Rom by copying my win98 boot disk (using my laptop) to my USB flash drive and then (on my PC) using the flashdrive as the source file for Nero to make a bootable CD-Rom. This doesn't work because when I boot, I get the Nero boot disk message followed by Invalid system disk.

I also tried 'Bart's method' from the linkage on bootdisk.com and that was too difficult for me to follow. So I'm confused and the intricacies of why a CD-Rom won't just boot like a normal floppy are quite beyond me at this point. Perhaps there is a much simpler method that has escaped me. Using that image file with my version of Nero (5.5) gives me the error message, 'invalid handle' 'i/o error, using image file' When I set up the boot disk in Nero, I'm assuming I should select 'image file' and not 'bootable logical drive' since the file I downloaded is an image file. However, Nero is looking for a 'boot image file' with a.ima extension. In the window where you would type the name for the image file it gives you c:/image.img as the default but when you click browse, it says it's looking for a.ima file.

That doesn't seem likely but I suppose bootable CD-Roms are relatively new concept (?) that my version may not fully support. Searchy, in the past when I had a floppy drive I had used this version of Ghost, so it should work once this boot disk is figured out.
